British Superkart Racing Club

If you’re coming from track days, sim racing, or have never raced before, don’t worry — superkart racing is a recognised Motorsport UK discipline.

To compete, you’ll need to complete an ARKS test (Karting licence) through Motorsport UK. This ensures all drivers understand the fundamentals of race safety, procedures, and on-track etiquette.

Once you’ve passed and obtained an Inter Club licence, you’re fully eligible to race superkarts on the UK’s major circuits alongside experienced drivers. This licence allows competition in F125, F250, and F450 classes.

A Kart National licence is required to race Division 1. Upgrade paths are clearly outlined in the Motorsport UK National Competition Rules .

Coming from indoor/outdoor short circuit karting or even arrive and drive? Long-circuit can be your next step: Proper circuits, Formula 4 speeds.

If you already hold a kart license whether that is Inter Club, National or International, the transition is easy. All you need is a set of motorcycle leathers and a kart.

If you already race 125KZ or 250 on short circuit you can use your kart with the addition of a rain light on the back. Otherwise second hand kit is obtainable through various facebook groups or new engines/rolling chassis are available.

If you’ve raced cars previosuly, superkarting still gives you proper wheel-to-wheel circuit racing with less complexity and cost. Instead of going 3 wide you can go 6 wide!

From a licensing aspect, if you have a MSUK Race Club license or higher you are eligible to race in Superkart events.

Coming from ACU bike racing? Superkarts offer a relateabe transition to 4 wheels — close racing and rapid direction changes, and outright speed on full-size circuits.

Holders of a current or recent ACU National Competition Licence may apply directly for a Motorsport UK Kart National licence, subject to providing proof of competing in National motorcycle racing within the last three years and passing the ARKS written examination.
